About

The Vermont Proposition is a set of ideas to drive common action and advance a successful and resilient future for the state. It includes the concerns repeatedly expressed by Vermonters and identifies where our collective efforts can make effective change.

Background

For over 20 years, VCRD has been helping communities across the state to identify and rally to address their concerns while embracing their hopes and dreams. The Vermont Proposition builds on this work, and the accelerated crisis brought on by COVID-19, to provide a vision for the future that Vermonters have repeatedly told us they strive for.

After numerous drafts and meaningful feedback from a remarkably diverse group of Vermonters, the current Vermont Proposition was adopted by the Future of Vermont Action Team as the core document to shape and implement this initiative.

Principles and Values

The development of the Proposition is guided by commitment to the following set of principles and values:

  • Openness, intellectual curiosity and non-partisanship

  • Deep listening, empathy and respect for all voices

  • Democracy and strengthening the fabric of Vermont civil society and community

  • Fairness, justice, and equity

  • Inclusivity that engages the full diversity of Vermonters

  • Dedication to opportunities for all of Vermont’s children to reach their fullest potential

  • Ecological and economic sustainability and human resilience

What’s Next

The VCRD convened Future of Vermont Action Team will guide strategy efforts toward further defining and implementing key proposition elements.

All interested people, organizations, and businesses of Vermont, are invited to join the Partnership for the Future of Vermont to support the Vermont Proposition initiative, continue discussions, keep informed, and help shape Vermont's future.
